New York ...Day 3!

I am so tired so i dont know if i can put the effort into this post that I did my others. I will try but there will be no spelling corrections or any revisions just like the others because once i am done writing it is lights out.

Today I woke up to world cup soccer and when you wake up to soccer its never a bad thing. US tried to kill the mood with there 11 year old soccer skills, but it wasnt enough. Problems at home put a good damper on things as well. The shop had more then a few problems which caused interuptions but they got everything worked out in the end and we didnt have to interupt our NYC time too bad.

After the game we were off to get some lunch and the tickets for the tonight show. We ate lunch in a chinese buffe/cafe time restaurant and we shared a table with a couple cute girls who just moved to the city to work at a firm. The food was good but the company was a bit shy. I tried starting up a conversation but it wasnt happening. I dont think they didnt want to talk i think its just that they were from NJ and people from NJ have 0 small talk skills.

When we got to the tonight show lines we found that they were having a segment called "Beat the band" where you sing a song that you know and see if the band knows it. Whether the band knows the song or not you get a bunch of crap (dvds and stuff) and a paid dinner to a nice restaraunt. Anyways my mom was soooooooo exited that they were doing it because thats her favorite. She sang for the person and they moved like 30 people aside who they liked. After that they narrowed it down to 7 people and she wasnt picked. I could tell she was disapointed and it would have meant alot to her if she could have sang on the tonight show.

Once we heard the songs that were picked we pretty much figured that her song wasnt stupid enough. Beautiful Beautiful Texas was her song. You dont know it!? Well, me either. She could also sing to well and they just wanted stupid camp songs. Which i happend to know plenty of. If i would have know then that the songs needed to be stupid i would have sang Mmm Eehhhh went the little green frog. It had hand signs and everything. I was a shoe in!!! to bad.

Once we got the the theater we had to wait in line for about 45 mins to get our tickets and do the auditions and what not. We had an hour to kill so we walked up to central park and walked around and then walked back. We stood up for about 2 hours. It was the most retarted thing ever! First you stand in line in the street and the interns there pump you up about the show. Saying stuff like "Are you exited to be at the Tonight Show? I cant hear you!" So of course we all scream and shout. We stood outside for at least 30 mins and then were led into a tiny tiny little room where they packed over a 300 people into it and we stood. For forever. My bad hurt my legs hurt and i couldnt move because we were stuffed into this room. If you are clostraphobic do not go see the show.

Finally a young kid (probably another intern) come out and tells some jokes and gets us pumped up for the 4th time. He leaves and we think we are going in. NOPE. not happening, we wait for another 30 mins, then they open the door. It never felt so good to move in my life. So as we are walking in the theater interns at the door are telling people to go upstairs and downstairs. I was so happy to be moving that they mistook the radient smile on my face for joy to be there and to scream at dave. So we got to sit up front in the third row :). The people in front of us must not have been smiling because they got sent to the balcony. Once you sit down you start clapping and dont stop for over an hour. Can you clap softly? Go ahead and try. You will notice that it takes just as much effort to do a full clap as it does to do a small one if you are going to a steady beat. My forarms at this point were going crazy.

I know i just harped on the whole show for over 3 paragraphs but the expirience was actually one i would def to again. The waiting wasnt as long as i made it seem and the clapping not so terribly bad. I got to see meril Streep or however you spell her name and that was pretty cool. Plus Yellowcard was there and i really liked there performance. My mom hated it.

After the late show it was off to the hotel. We went back a different way and that completed our tour of the time square area (25 blocks in all directions) for us. Yes we walked alot this trip i have yet to step into a cab (besides from the airport) or the subway. We will be riding the subway tomorrow. At the hotel we relaxed because dave tired the crap out of us. and watched some highlights of the world cup games we missed and the whole Rodger Clemens ESPN thing. It was a much needed break.

After we had rested our feet we were back onto the streets and on our way to the Lion King.

THE LION KING

I was blown away by this show. It was above and beyond anything i would have thought they could do. I mean how could they make all of the costumes look good? I couldnt see it in my mind. I kept thinking big stuffed mascots running around :). I guess i had low standards going in. I am glad though because after the first scene i was almost in tears, i know i am a wuss but i was moved. The lady that played and sang the begining song, the part where the guy goes NAAAAAA SPAPENA....... she was awsome!!! She spoke the african language fluently and you could tell when she sang. Every single person seemed to be made for there part. The guys who played Pumba and Timon were hysterical and had the voices down perfect. The african chants that went throughout the entire show were my favorite part and the harmony and cool instruments were just incredible.

I want to see it again but i dont think i will have the time. I wish i had the opportunity to see this type of show in austin. I would be there once a week :) If i do have time during the rest of the time i am here i will go see wicked again. Tomorrow we plan to see something else.

After the show we walked back to the hotel and on the way we stopped at a very nice italian restaurant, which i think we were under dressed for but i was not about to go the hotel and put on a suit and tie. They sat us anyways and we enjoyed a great meal. I had penne pasta with italian sausage and mushrooms (very good), my mom had the lobster ravioli (also good) and my dad had a steak which was great. I had a little of all of them of course and then we all had a different dessert which were wonderful.

I love the New York waiters here. My mom had a classic moment with our waiter tonight. She forgot what it was she wanted to order but started to hand the menu to the waiter at the same time. She started by saying she wanted a ravioli and they couldnt remember the rest but he finished with the lobster plate and she said no that wasnt it and tried to pull back her menu from the waiter who was having none of it and told her she would like the lobster. She said no again and he still held on the the menu and again recomended the lobster and finally my mom caved and said that that sounded nice. LOL! The whole akward moment happend in a matter of seconds but i found it very funny.

The whole new york no refill on your ice tea deal needs to stop. Hello i am from Texas and i will drink at least 5 cups of tea during a meal give or take the size of the cup. I refuse to buy your tea if you do not have refills i will just take water. Big jerks, tea is cheap and you can charge me 3 dollars for the cup with refills and i wont care but 2 dollars for a cup full of ice and two sips of tea is terms for hanging in Texas.

Tomorrow we change Hotels and meet up with everyone else from Round Rock who are just heading up so that will take up some time in the morning. Then its Ground 0 (world trade toweres) and then we talk back hitting little italy, china town, the G village. and whatever else is over there.

until tomorrown. gnight.

You'll have to let me know what you think about the WTC site. It has to be one of the weirdest things I've ever been to. You would think that you're going to be emotional and distraut, but there's just nothing there. It was no emotion or feeling what so ever. Just weird all together. Also, I hate the way there's so many people selling 9/11 memorabilia. They whored out the damn place, you feel so dirty after being there.

Why I'm posting at this hour I'm not really sure. Yay for work at 6 am.

Ya Its just a big hole in the ground with a fence around it. I dont know when you went to the site but there was no one selling anything in the area. NO ONE. I guess the cops cleared them out, i was supprised myself not to see anything there. We walked around it and left. Not much to see.
