Story Time
One of my favorite memories of my grandmother is when she used to read to me. It was almost always a Hardy Boys book. She could always capture the essence of a character and really bring it to life in my mind. When we moved to California she would mail me tapes of her reading. I would listen to them before bedtime and go to sleep dreaming about finding a treasure map or discovering a lost city. She really enjoyed reading to us and I know she is the reason I enjoy reading so much now.
I was reading to my nephew the other day and I think he really enjoyed it as well. I know I enjoyed it more though. Its fun to dive into characters and make up a voice for them, even if its just a ninja turtles book. I looking forward to all the times in the near future that I will get to open up a book and really become the story. He cant read. I could make up anything I wanted to. I get to make the story as scary or cheesy as I want. Its fun because I am not the best reader. With my dyslexia I stutter and sometime goof up words but he doesnt care. He only cares that I do the right voice for Splinter...apparently he doesnt have a British accent.
